Section 91(2) of the Criminal Code criminalizes possession of a prohibited weapon, a restricted weapon, a prohibited device other than a replica firearm, or any prohibited ammunition without a licence.
Prohibited weapons include certain types of firearms, switchblades, or brass knuckles.
Restricted weapons include handguns and certain types of firearms with a short barrel length.
Prohibited ammunition includes firearms magazines, such as those that are designed for use with firearms that are prohibited. Examples include magazines for semi-automatic rifles or handguns with a capacity exceeding the legal limit.
Like the unauthorized possession of a firearm, this offence carries a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment.
