We are proud to welcome Thomas Hunter to the lawfirm. Thomas is a third-year law student at Lakehead University’s Bora Laskin Faculty of Law completing his four-month practice placement at the office.
Thomas graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2018 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in History with Distinction. Thomas chose to pursue his Juris Doctor from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University because of its innovative and unique, ‘Integrated Practice Curriculum,’ which combines the theory of law with practical skills of the profession.
Thomas’ interest in criminal law is rooted in his past work with marginalized persons as a basketball camp instructor with at-risk youth in London, Ontario. Thomas is passionate about improving the way in which disadvantaged peoples interact with the criminal justice system. Thomas’ desire to advance access to justice grew during his time as a law student.
Between 2019 and 2020, Thomas worked with the Lakehead University Community Legal Services Clinic on a pro bono basis and provided legal services to low-income residents of Northwestern Ontario, including Thunder Bay, Fort William First Nation, and the municipality of Greenstone. Thomas successfully conducted trials and appeals at criminal and provincial offences court. Thomas is eager to continue his work as a social justice advocate.
After completing his second year of law school, Thomas gained well-rounded and practical work experience as a summer student with Gowling WLG. Thomas’ work experience and constructive mentoring program focused on two major practice areas, business law and advocacy. Thomas was involved in a number of high-profile transactions with young, dynamic companies. Thomas looks forward to completing his articles with Gowling WLG in 2021.
Welcome Thomas!
