Andrew Domacina joins the office as a placement student from Lakehead University.
Andrew’s unwavering passion about social justice has been a life long journey. At the foundation of his pursuit of a legal career is the desire to fight for marginalized communities that struggle to navigate the systemic inequalities of the criminal justice system.
Prior to law school, Andrew spent nearly 10 years building a successful career in the security management industry. Throughout that time, Andrew developed the highest level of customer service and client relation skills, finely tuned from years of working at cultural landmarks such as the CN Tower and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Andrew graduated from York University in 2012 with a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Kinesiology. Andrew chose to pursue his Juris Doctor from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University because of its innovative and one of a kind, 'Integrated Practice Curriculum' that fuses the theory of law with practical skills of the profession.
Andrew’s previous life experience has translated well into his success has a law student. Andrew has thrived at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, ranked among the top students in his class. He was recognized as a finalist at the Civil Trial mooting competition and has received several scholarships including the Jack Peacock Memorial award. Throughout law school, Andrew has been a leader inside and out of the classroom. As the President of the local Toastmasters Chapter, and President of the Criminal Law Student’s Association, Andrew hosted numerous events and paneled discussions. This included two events that partnered with the Criminal Lawyers Association and featured renowned Brian Greenspan as the key note speaker.
In 2018, Andrew worked with the Lakehead University Community Legal Services Clinic and gained invaluable experience with court / tribunal appearances in both criminal and provincial offence matters. Andrew ran his first trial independently before the Ontario Court of Justice on a criminal matter, and successfully obtained an acquittal of all charges against his client.
Andrew is eager to continue his work as a social justice advocate. He looks forward to completing his articles with Edward Royle & Partners LLP, a reputable criminal defence firm in Toronto. With his professional management experience, and his passion in advocating for access to justice, Andrew is well positioned for success in criminal defence practice.
